¡¡ Optical physics is one of the earliest disciplines established
in the institute. In Nov. 1994, the laboratory of optical
physics was authorized as an open laboratory of Chinese
Academy of Sciences, and now is a key laboratory of Chinese
Academy of Sciences. The research is mainly directed to
the basic research of the interactions between laser and
matter, as well as the applied basic research of novel materials
in optics and photonics. By keeping indefatigable effort
the laboratory has gradually become an international influential
and competitive research group. Now the main topics include
the puer and applied studies in laser physics, photonic
crystal, nonlinear optics, strong field physics and ultrafast
processes, All of these work were published in the important
journals, such as Phys. Rev. Lett. etc. And the academic
impact keeps increasing. Meanwhile, important progresses
have been achieved in the field of laser devices and specific
materials, which bronght us many nations awards in sciences
and technology. Also, applying the methods of optics to
biological systems have been become an active area in the
lab.
£ At present there are a whole family of advanced laser systems,
such as the pulsed laser with nanosecond, picosecond and
femtosecond pulse duration, a tunable ring laser, an excimer
laser and widely tunable optical parametric amplifier. The
up-to-date detection instruments such as broadband digital
oscilloscope, lock-in amplifier boxcar and different kinds
of spectrometer in the infrared, visible and ultraviolet
regions are also available in the laboratory.
