题目:Fundamental and applications of THz air photonics

摘要:

In this seminar, I will explore recent advancements in the field of THz air photonics, focusing on the use of gases such as air or nitrogen as nonlinear media to convert energy from femtosecond laser pulses into short bursts of coherent, broadband THz radiation. THz generation in this context occurs within a femtosecond laser-driven, elongated plasma channel. Unlike photoconductive materials and nonlinear crystals, which are other primary sources of laser-driven THz radiation, air offers advantages in terms of damage threshold and phase matching. Utilizing standard tabletop mJ-class laser technology, it is possible to achieve peak field strengths of THz transients in the MV/cm range, with spectral coverage extending from 1 to over 30 THz.

The seminar will cover the generation mechanism, beam propagation, and coherent detection of THz radiation from laser-driven plasmas. Emphasis will be placed on optimizing bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio and employing THz air photonics for quantitative, ultra-broadband spectroscopy.

 

简介

     Peter Uhd Jepsen is a distinguished professor specializing in Optical Terahertz Science and Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics and Chemistry from Aarhus University in 1996, was postdoc and later assistant professor at the University of Freiburg, Germany (1996-2004). He became associate professor at the Technical University in 2005, and full professor in 2008. Currently, he serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). With over 155 peer-reviewed articles and more than 10,500 citations, Jepsen's research focuses on generating, propagating, and detecting ultrashort pulses of coherent THz radiation. He has chaired several international conferences and workshops, and supervised numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, contributing significantly to the field of THz technology.
