题目:Heusler compounds and perovskites as thin film structures
报告人:Prof. Gerhard Jakob(Institute of Physics, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, 55128 Mainz, Germany)
摘要:
Oxides derived from the perovskite structure and intermetallic Heusler compounds show an extremely rich phase diagram, which stems from the flexibility of the underlying crystal structure with respect to doping on the different atomic positions. I will discuss some similarities of the crystal and electronic structure in both material classes leading to a high density of states at or near the Fermi energy, that are related to such different phenomena as magnetism, high spin polarization, magnetic shape memory effect, ferroelectricity, or high thermopower. We prepare thin films and heterostructures of these compounds, where the thin film structure is of advantage either for the measurement or enables the functionality. Specific examples to be discussed are the full spin polarization of Co2Fe1-xMnxSi films, the magnetic shape memory effect in Ni2MnGa films, the thermal conductivity of NiTiSn/HfNiSn superlattices and colossal magnetoresistive perovskites, magnetoelectric coupling at the BiFeO3/La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 interface, and the conductance control of the quasi 2D-electron gas at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3-interface by a multiferroic BiFeO3 ad-layer.

Prof. Dr. Gerhard Jakob is extraordinary professor at the Institute of Physics at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. He received his Diploma degree and PhD from Technical University of Darmstadt in 1988 and 1993, respectively. He then proceeded as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Materials Research Center at the University of Leuven in Belgium. He joined the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz as research assistant since 1995. He passed the Habilitation (professor candidate test) in 2001 and later on promoted to be full professor since 2009. Prof. Jakob’s research focuses on a broad range, including the transport properties of thin films, heterostructures, and superlattices of new materials with interesting functionalites, high Tc superconductors especially vortex dynamics, colossal magnetoresistive manganite and double perovskites, fully spin polarized Heusler materials, magnetic shape memory materials, half-Heusler for thermoelectrics, oxide Interfaces with new functionalities, and multiferroics.
