题目:Strong field probe and control of chemical dynamics

摘要:
A laser field with an intensity of higher than 1013 W/cm2 will interact strongly with the electrons in atoms and molecules. Such interaction results in some interesting and significant physical processes such as above threshold ionization/dissociation and high harmonic generation. In this talk, I will present three studies in which we exploit the structural and dynamical dependence of strong field interaction to probe and control the coupled electronic/nuclear dynamics in chemical reactions. In the first study, strong field ionization is used to probe the orbital polarization of atoms produced from photodissociation. It is shown that strong field ionization is not only sensitive to orbital alignment but also to orbital orientation (i. e. helicity). In the second experiment, strong field ionization is used to monitor the real-time electron rearrangement of bromine molecules during photodissociation. Finally, I will show that strong mid-IR laser field can promote mode selective chemistry due to an efficient kinetic energy pumping into a specific vibration mode.
 
Dr. Wen Li简介:
Dr.Wen Li received a B.S. degree in Applied Chemistry from Peking University in 2000 and a Ph.D. degree in chemical physics from Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY in 2006, respectively. He also worked as a graduate research assistant during 2001-2006 in Stony Brook University and visiting scientist during 2002-2004 in Brookhaven National Laboratory. From 2006 to 2009 he was engaged in postdoctoral research associate in JILA, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. Since Aug 2009, he began his career at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI as an assistant professor of chemistry. Presently he is a permanent resident of US, as well as member of American Chemical Society (ACS) and American Physical Society (APS).
Dr Li has published about 30 papers in academic journals include Science, Physics Review Letters. He also worked as a developer of IMAQ-- a high-resolution ion imaging computer program, panelist in the Workshop on Wisconsin free electron laser facility science project in 2007, session chairs for APS national meeting in 2010 Fall and ACS national meeting in 2013 Spring. He won the awards of Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in 2013, Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2012 and AFOSR Young Investigator Program (YIP) Award in 2012.
