题目:THz Photonics: The Synergy of Ultrafast Optics, Electronics, Micro-Microwaves, and Quasi-Optics

Abstract 
THz photonics will be reviewed, starting with the use of photo-conductive switching on lithographically fabricated transmission lines on semiconductor chips to the development of a complete optoelectronic THz-TDS system. THz waveguide measurements show that THz phenomena can be considered as micro-microwaves. The performance of microwave antennas and THz quasi-optics will be directly compared. New “world-record” THz long-path (167 m) phase coherent measurements of the atmosphere, which have revealed the ideal THz bit pulse, will be presented. Future opportunities in fundamental research and practical applications, including THz communications, will be described.
 
Prof. Daniel R. Grischkowsky简介:
He received his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and his Ph.D degree in physics from Columbia University in 1968. Dr. Grischkowsky is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the American Physical Society. He was awarded the Boris Pregel Award for Applied Science and Technology (1985) by the New York Academy of Sciences for his invention of the optical fiber pulse compressor. He received the (OSA) R.W. Wood Prize (1989) for his pulse propagation studies in optical fibers and their use for generating ultrashort pulses of light, and the (OSA) William F. Meggers Award (2003) for development and applications of THz-TDS. Most recently, he is the winner of the 2011 Kenneth J. Button Prize from the International Society of IR, mm and THz Waves for pioneering contributions to THz Time-Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS).
His research work has resulted in 161 peer-reviewed journal publications with 8,787 citations; 24 publications have been cited more than 100 times; and 3 publications have been cited more than 350 times. The Hirsch index is H= 52. His work has been featured in 169 invited talks. He has been awarded 6 U.S. patents. His research paper, "Far-infrared time-domain spectroscopy with terahertz beams of dielectrics and semiconductors," JOSA-B, Vol. 7, pp. 2006-2015 (1990), with 719 citatations is listed in the “50 Most-Cited Papers of the Journal of the Optical Society (JOSA),” in celebration of the 90th Anniversary of this Journal.
