题目:Toward the generation of Attosecond keV x-ray pulses driven by Thomson scattering

摘要:
At the beginning of this century, the femtosecond (fs) barrier was broken [3], a door being opened to new opportunities for the study of ultrafast electron dynamics in atoms, moleculesand nano-structured systems that have never been explored before. Attosecond technology has been rapidly progressing in which an isolated sub-100 as pulse was demonstrated [4]. The real time observation of inner-shell processes in atoms [5], tunneling ionization from atoms [6], and bandgap transition of electrons in solid has been observed [7]. The currently available photon energy of attosecond pulses is in the soft x-ray region, 30–100 eV. Even though these are land-marking experiments, attosecond or a few fs keV pulses are yet to be developed for wider exploration and manipulation of electron dynamics in a vast spectrum of natural phenomena: there is no source available in keV or higher energies faster than 10 fs. In this talk, Prof Kim would like to discuss a new physical scheme to generate attosecond keV x-ray pulses by utilizing the interaction of a fs laser with a relativistic electron beam.

Prof. Dong Eon Kim 简介:
Prof Dong Eon Kim obtained M.A and Ph.D degrees from Princeton University in 1984 and 1989 respectively. From March 1989 to July 1991, has was a research associate in Princeton University and as a consultant in Princeton X-Ray Laser, Inc. Since 1991 he has been working in the physics department at POSTECH, Korea. Prof Kim’s research activities include interaction of high power femtosecond laser with matters, inner-shell X-ray laser, small-scale soft X-ray laser, X-ray optical properties of multilayered thin films,spectroscopic study of gas-puff Z-Pinch dynamics etc. He accepted many awards and honors such as SeoAhm Fellowship (SeoAhm Scholarship Foundation), nominated to Simon Ramo Award (American Physical Society) and Princeton Honorific Fellowship (Princeton University), Korean Honor Fellowship,Princeton University Merit Prize, Natural Science College Award (Seoul National University).
