题目:Multi-photon laser-cooling of “difficult” atomic species
报告人:吴赛骏博士(Joint Quantum Institute, National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA)
摘要:
Light scattering of ground-state atoms exerts optical forces on atoms. This optical mechanical effect has been exploited with great success in the cooling and trapping of neutral atoms for both fundamental studies and practical applications. There are, however, certain atomic species that are hard to be laser-cooled due to limited sources of radiation at the required wavelengths (e.g., deep ultraviolet). In this talk I will discuss a recently developed multi-photon laser cooling technique, demonstrated in atomic Cesium, that uses optical forces induced by excited-state light scattering and may provide an alternative route toward efficient cooling of these atomic species. As a particular example, I will discuss cooling of atomic (anti)hydrogen using an excited-state Sisyphus cooling effect.
