题目:Opportunities in nanophotonics
报告人:Prof. Shanhui Fan (Stanford University,USA)
摘要:
We show that the use of nanophotonic structures, where the feature size of the structure can be far smaller than the wavelength of light, opens new possibilities for controlling the properties of optical waves. In particular, we introduce the concept of bandwidth compressor that enables one to overcome the Shockley-Queisser limit in single junction solar cell. We also explore the use of one-dimensional waveguide structure to enable strong photon-photon interaction at a few photon level. Finally, we show that dynamic modulation of photonic structures provide complete linear optical isolation in on-chip structures.
Prof. Shanhui Fan 简介:
Shanhui Fan is an associate professor of electrical engineering at the Stanford University. He received his Ph. D in 1997 in theoretical condensed matter physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and was a research scientist at the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT prior to his appointment at Stanford. His research interests are in computational and theoretical studies of solid state and photonic structures and devices, especially photonic crystals, microcavities, and nanophotonic circuits and elements. He has published over 160 refereed journal articles that were cited over 9,900 times, has given over 120 invited talks, and was granted 34 US patents. Prof. Fan received a National Science Foundation Career Award (2002), a David and Lucile Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering (2003), the National Academy of Sciences Award for Initiative in Research (2007), and the Adolph Lomb medal from the Optical Society of America (2007). Dr. Fan is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and a Senior Member of IEEE.
