题目:Optical Spectroscopy on Nanostructures

摘要:
Recent work on optical characterization of carbon nanotubes in our laboratory will be discussed. On Raman scattering, we have observed multiphonon Raman spectra up to 6 phonons from individual single-wall nanotubes. On excitonic transitions, we have obtained absorption spectra that show the existence of excitons in metallic single-wall nanotubes with a binding energy of about 50 meV.

Prof. Yuen-Ron Shen简介:
Prof. Yuen-Ron Shen obtained his Ph.D. degree at Harvard University in 1963. He has been the Berkeley faculty since 1964 and Principal Investigator in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 1967. He is a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, of the National Academy of Sciences, and of Academia Sinica. Prof. Yuen-Ron Shen is a fellow of American Physical Society and Optical Society of America, and of Sloan Fellow from 1966 to 1968. From 1972 to 1973, he was a Guggenheim Fellow. He was a Miller Professor in 1975 and 1981; Prof. Yuen-Ron Shen obtained the Alexander von Humboldt Award, C.H. Townes Award, A.L. Schawlow Prize, Max Planck Research Prize and F. Isakson Prize in 1984, 1986, 1992, 1996 and 1998, respectively. He gained the Dept. of Energy Award for outstanding scientific accomplishments in 1983, for sustained outstanding research in solid state physics in 1987, and for significant implications for DOE-Related technologies in 1997.
